Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook’s new name will be Meta
Social networking company changed its name as Meta on October 28, 2021. It’s other apps, such as Instagram and WhatsApp, will also come under Meta.
What is the meaning of Meta?
‘Meta’ in Greek means ‘after’ or ‘beyond’. The Facebook’s company will now simply be called Meta. However, the Facebook’s app will retain its name and there’s no change for other apps.
Meta has a new logo as well, which is like the symbol for infinity (∞).
The company says that the ‘Meta’ symbolize is “designed to dynamically live in the metaverse – where you can move through it and around it.”
“We believe the metaverse will be the successor to the mobile internet,” Zuckerberg said.
The company expects “to invest many billions of dollars for years to come before the metaverse reaches scale,” Zuckerberg added.
Facebook also said it would introduce a way for Oculus Quest users to use different 2D apps like Slack, Dropbox, and Facebook while in this “Horizon Home” VR space.
This year, Facebook created a product team focused on the metaverse, and it recently announced plans to hire 10,000 employees in Europe over the next five years to work on the effort. Facebook also said it would run a $150 million education program aimed at helping AR and VR creators and developers.
