APJ Abdul Kalam – The Missile Man of India

APJ Abdul Kalam – “If you want to shine like a sun, first burn like a sun.”

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, “Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam” is the actual name. He was born on 15 October 1931, Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. Kalam is India’s most popular and intelligent Scientist & Politician. He served as President of India from year 2002 to 2007.

Dr. Kalam played a leading role in development of Missiles of DRDO, later he named as “The Missile Man of India”.

A.P.J. Kalam received a degree in aeronautical engineering from the Madras Institute of Technology. After that in 1958 joined the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

In 1969, Dr. Kalam joined Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). In ISRO, he was the Project Director of SLV-III, the first Indian satellite launch vehicle. Later he rejoined DRDO in 1982, he produced Agni Missile. Agni, India’s first intermediate-range ballistic missile.

Dr. Abdul Kalam became scientific adviser to the Indian Defence Minister from 1992 to 1997. In 2002, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam won the election and became India’s 11th President.

He received many numbers of awards, the country’s highest honours, the Padma Vibhushan (1990) and the Bharat Ratna (1997). Dr. Kalam wrote an autobiography, Wings of Fire (1999).

On July 27, 2015, he collapsed while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong due to cardiac arrest attack, and later he died.
