PMMVY Scheme: How to Apply, Benefits & more

PMMVY Scheme (Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana), previously known as the Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana, an expected mother gets Rs 5,000 in two installments, Rs 3,000 during pregnancy and Rs 2,000 after the birth of the first child.

PMMVY is a government scheme introduce in 2017 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to provide support for pregnant women above the age of 19 years for their first living child.

It plays a significant role in enabling the child and the mother to get proper care and benefits during the critical period during and post-pregnancy. With this scheme a cash benefit of INR 5000 is directly transfers into the pregnant woman’s bank account.

Objective of PMMVY Scheme

This scheme comes under the Women and Child Development Ministry of India and aims at the following:

• Giving cash incentive for the woman to help cover wage loss and get proper rest before and after delivery.
• Ensuring the expecting mother has the funds to sustain and take additional nutrition and care during pregnancy.

Financial Benefits

• The first installment transferred when pregnancy is registered (should be done 150 days from the last menstrual date) – Rs 1000
• The second installment, which is raised after six months after the pregnancy is registered – Rs 2000
• The third installment, which is disbursed after childbirth – Rs 2000

Nutritional Benefits

Pregnant women or lactating mothers need extra care and nutrition to sustain and provide proper care for the newborn. The mother should consume at least 200 calories per day and follow the diet as prescribed by the doctor based on her height and weight.

This scheme takes care of these additional needs of the mother and the baby. 

Documents Required for the PMMVY Scheme

First Installment

• Duly Filled Form 1A Application
• Copy of MCP Card
• Copy of Identity Proof (PAN Card / Voter ID / Aadhaar Card)
• Copy of bank account or post office account passbook

Second Installment

• Duly Filled Form 1B Application
• Copy of MCP Card

Third Installment

• Duly Filled Form 1C Application
• Copy of MCP Card
• Copy of Aadhaar Card
• Copy of the Birth Certificate of the child

How to Apply for PMMVY Scheme?

Register for this scheme online with the following simple process:

• Log in to the PMMVY website using the login details of the scheme facilitator (AWC or approved health facility).
• Click the ‘New Beneficiary’ tab and download the Beneficiary Registration Form (Application Form 1A).
• Fill out the form and complete the instructions as provided on the PMMVY website.
• After six months of pregnancy, log in using the registration details and click on the ‘Second Installment’ tab. Next, fill out Form 1B and follow the instructions on the website to receive the funds.
• Post the child’s birth, log in to the website again, and click on the ‘Third Installment’ tab. Now fill out Form 1C and submit it by completing the required instructions.

After completing these steps, you will receive all the installments in the beneficiary’s bank account.
