PMMVY Scheme (Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana), previously known as the Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana, an expected mother gets Rs 5,000 in two installments, Rs 3,000 during pregnancy and Rs 2,000 after the birth of the first child.
PMMVY is a government scheme introduce in 2017 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to provide support for pregnant women above the age of 19 years for their first living child.
It plays a significant role in enabling the child and the mother to get proper care and benefits during the critical period during and post-pregnancy. With this scheme a cash benefit of INR 5000 is directly transfers into the pregnant woman’s bank account.
This scheme comes under the Women and Child Development Ministry of India and aims at the following:
Pregnant women or lactating mothers need extra care and nutrition to sustain and provide proper care for the newborn. The mother should consume at least 200 calories per day and follow the diet as prescribed by the doctor based on her height and weight.
