The Prime Minister Awas Yojana scheme is a very beneficial scheme launched by the Government of India on June 1, 2005. This scheme is for people living in the slum area and for the poor urban people. The purpose of PMAY is to provide interest subsidy on housing loans to economically weaker, low income and middle income candidates.
There are two subsections of the PMAY scheme, namely PMAY Gramin and PMAY Urban. The subsections divided based on the area on which they focus.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), previously known as the Indira Awas Yojana, is focuses at providing affordable house to beneficiaries in rural regions of India (excluding Chandigarh and Delhi).
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAYU), is a scheme that is focuses towards the urban areas in India.
People in the slum area live below the poverty line as well as those who are financially weaker can apply for PMAY. These people can apply for the Housing for All by 2024 under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme.

LIGs (lower income groups)People who earn from 3 to 6 lakhs annually
MIGs ( middle income groups) people who earn from 6 to 18 lakhs annually
