The Prime Minister Awas Yojana scheme is a very beneficial scheme launched by the Government of India on June 1, 2005. This scheme is for people living in the slum area and for the poor urban people. The purpose of PMAY is to provide interest subsidy on housing loans to economically weaker, low income and middle income candidates.
There are two subsections of the PMAY scheme, namely PMAY Gramin and PMAY Urban. The subsections divided based on the area on which they focus.
PMAY Rural/Gramin
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), previously known as the Indira Awas Yojana, is focuses at providing affordable house to beneficiaries in rural regions of India (excluding Chandigarh and Delhi).
PMAY Urban
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAYU), is a scheme that is focuses towards the urban areas in India.
People in the slum area live below the poverty line as well as those who are financially weaker can apply for PMAY. These people can apply for the Housing for All by 2024 under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme.
Documents Required to Apply PMAY
For both Salary based & Self employee citizens
- Voter ID Card
- Aadhaar card
- Government issued card with photo
- FWS/LIGs/MIGs certificate
- Driving license (if you have)
- Verified letter from a government official with a photographs
FWS (financially weaker section)Whose salary is up to 3 lakhs annually
LIGs (lower income groups)People who earn from 3 to 6 lakhs annually
MIGs ( middle income groups) people who earn from 6 to 18 lakhs annually
There are certain conditions of the Government, if they are fulfilled then easily anyone can apply for this scheme.
Online Process of PM Awas Yojana for Slum Dwellers
- Open official Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at pmaymis.gov.in
- Choose the ‘For Slum Dwellers’ option in the ‘Citizen Assessment’ dropdown.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and click submit.
- You have to enter your details like name, income, no. of family members, residential address, contact number, age of the head of the family, religion, caste.
- After entering details, scroll down, enter the captcha code in the box and click on submit.
